Hailing from a riverine hamlet neighboring Chenab in Punjab, Pakistan, Amjad Bhatti studied literature, art and philosophy at the Government College Lahore and remained actively engaged with social, political, cultural and literary movements promoting social justice, cultural diversity and economic inclusiveness. In last 20-years he has been working with a broad range of organizations including grassroots, national, regional, bilateral, multilaterals, parliament and government, mainly on policy research, institutional analysis, programmatic development, media studies and strategic communications. Key institutions/organisations he remained associated with: UNDP, UNISDR, Forum of Federations (FoF), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of Pakistan; Prime Minister’s Literacy Commission; Journalists Resource Centre; Daily Ausaf; Rural Development Policy Institute; Intermediate Technology Development Group; Duryog Nivaran; SAARC Disaster Management Centre; Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA); British Council; Lead-Pakistan, Oxfam-Novib, Centre for Civic Education; Practical Action. He has been engaged with institutions based in Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bengladesh, India, Bhutan, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Switzerland, Turkey, USA and UK. Amjad has 19 publications (peer-reviewed, edited, authored, co-authored); 41 papers/presentations/articles; and 11 initiatives on institutional designing and development to his credit. He founded Katchi Talkie – a studio and cinema inspired by a superseded tradition of mobile and makeshift ‘cinema’ once operative in correspondence with harvest seasons in parts of rural Pakistan. Katchi Talkie is dedicated to create communicational and representational spaces for the peripheral ethnicities, identities, cultures, communities and ideologies struggling against the varied forms of hegemony, exploitation, discrimination and un-recognition. At Katchi Talkie, Amjad is engaged with thematic research, story-boarding, script-writing, editorial review and quality control of KT products, and ideation with partners and core team for KT projects and initiatives. Asia Peace Film Festival is a flagship initiative of Katchi Talkie and Amjad serves as its convener.
